Burnham-on-Sea RNLI volunteers were called out late on Friday night to assist a disabled yacht in the water off Hinkley Point.
Milford Haven Coastguard called the crew out to help at 9.02pm on Friday, August 21, following reports that a 27ft yacht had suffered a damaged propeller north-east of Hinkley Point.
The RNLI have confirmed that two people were aboard the vessel and neither was injured.
The yacht’s crew had prepared to anchor, but required assistance after the propeller problem meant the boat could not start its engine or make way.
Burnham’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat, Doris Day and Brian, launched with a crew of four and located the yacht.
Launch Authority Marc Smith said: “The crew followed the RNLI towing policy to ‘the letter of the law’ and made the decision that the safest and best option was to tow.”
The vessel, which was based in Burnham, was towed back to the sailing club.
Two additional RNLI crew members wearing lifejackets helped those on board leave the yacht safely for the evening.
Mr Smith said: “The boat was a Burnham yacht and was safely towed back to the sailing club, where two additional crew in life jackets assisted boat crew with safely leaving the vessel for the evening.”
He added that newly qualified head launcher Adam was “thrown straight into action” during the incident.
Mr Smith said: “Well done all, and thanks, the boat owners and Milford Haven Coastguard were very grateful for the assistance given.”
