The Larchmont Yacht Club out of Larchmont, New York were the winners of the Boston Yacht Club’s 27th annual Jackson Cup last weekend with a record setting undefeated score of 17 wins and 0 losses in the team race regatta.
In second place was the team from Marblehead’s Eastern Yacht Club; the Royal Thames Yacht Club from the UK was third and the team from the Ida Lewis Yacht Club in Newport, Rhode Island was fourth.
“Team racing takes strategy, determination and excellent seamanship” said BYC Rear Commodore Robert Bova, who presented the awards, “and our thanks go out to all the competitors for coming here and fostering the spirit of camaraderie, competition and tradition that makes the Jackson Cup so special”.
The other four teams competing included the New York Yacht Club, who were last year’s winners, and the local Boston and Corinthian Clubs and the Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club of Long Island.
Graham Landy, skipper of the winning Larchmont team who was competing in his second Jackson Cup said the conditions were great. “The wind was a bit light to start with but got better and it was really tight team racing.”
George Potter from the Royal Thames Yacht Club in London who was competing in his first Jackson Cup in a young members team from the club was very positively surprised by the weather having heard about the windy and rainy conditions last year. “The New England weather gods have been very kind to us” he said.
