Fifty feet (15.4 meters) wide and 141 feet (43 meters) long, the long-planned Sunreef 43M Eco catamaran has made significant progress. Recently, she transferred into another hall at Sunreef Yachts’ facilities in Poland to continue the next stages of construction. Even with this brief outdoor appearance, though, the scale of this superyacht is unmistakable.
Sunreef Yachts revealed plans for the project in 2022. It’s been using modular construction since the build began, a process more commonly seen in commercial vessel construction. It allows multiple parts to complete simultaneously, shortening timetables. While that’s an overall advantage, it especially benefits Sunreef, seeing as construction started on spec.
Although more work is on the list for the coming months, the mega catamaran has spaces sure to attract attention. The above-mentioned broad beam really comes into perspective on the main deck. It makes entertaining and relaxing in the saloon and on the aft deck especially rewarding. Similarly, the master suite looks and feels more spacious, sitting fully forward on the same deck.
A party of 12 can stay aboard, with the guest staterooms split between the two hulls. The full group can gather together on the flying bridge for sunning or lunches at anchor. Closer to the water—essentially at its edge—Sunreef Yachts offers what it calls the Ocean Lounge. For owners to tailor, it’s a leisure area or a wellness area. Thanks to three opening platforms, too, it feels even more ample and open than it is.
What truly differentiates the Sunreef 43M Eco catamaran, however, are her “Eco” credentials. The shipyard has been equipping its projects with solar panels and electric propulsion for a few years. This superyacht carries on the tradition. In fact, you can see the solar panels along the hulls in the video footage. Specifically, about 1,292 square feet (120 square meters) are embedded in the hull and superstructure. Altogether, the sailing yacht will have 2,691 square feet (250 square meters) of solar panels.
As for the electric propulsion, she relies on twin 200-kW electric engines and battery banks for repositioning and maneuvers. Sunreef has further chosen a 1-MWh-capacity sold-state battery bank rather than lithium-ion batteries. Solid-state batteries can store far more energy without needing more space. Notably, the shipyard has developed a hydro-generation system for the yacht as well.
The largest sailing yacht in Sunreef Yachts’ solar-cell-equipped Eco line should launch next year.
