Evangelion x MAYLA High-End Jewelry Collection Features Shinji, Rei, Asuka & Kaworu

by R.Donald

Neon Genesis Evangelion is more known for being emblematic of late 1990s surrealism and psychoanalysis in anime than being particularly fashionable, but it has its fair share of wearable collectibles. This can be seen in a new quartet of jewelry based on the classic four EVA pilots.

Created by MAYLA, this new series of ring objects combines designs from throughout the mecha franchise into must-have fashion statements. Based on Shinji Ikari, Rei Ayanami, Asuka Langley Soryu and Kaworu Nagisa, these all have rings inspired by concepts and color schemes tied to these characters. Set to ship out by the last quarter of the year, they’re the best jewelry on the market to represent the mecha classic.

Evangelion Fans Can Bling Out With New MAYLA Ring Collection

Each of the MAYLA x Evangelion sets comes with six separate rings, all of which are based on a different aspect of the mecha anime franchise. For instance, the Shinji Ikari set has a ring based on the colors of the EVA Unit-01 mecha, with another based on Shinji’s plugsuit and another on the entry plug. The other three are based on Misato’s cross necklace (which bears the words “You can be proud”), the third Angel Sachiel and the SDAT walkman that Shinji listens to.

Rei’s rings are based on the Unit-00 mecha, Rei’s plugsuit, Rei being filled with LCL, her bandages, the 16th Angel Armisael, and the moon and sea as they appear in The End of Evangelion. The rings for the redheaded Asuka Langley Soryu are just as fiery as her hair and personality, with the inspirations to reflect these design choices. Besides the Unit-02 and her plugsuit, her other four rings are based on her psychological graph when she’s being mentally “contaminated” in the anime, the neck of Asuka’s infamous doll, a line inside the AT Field and her iconic hair ribbon.

Lastly, there’s Kaworu, who has perhaps the most eclectic designs. One is based on Kaworu himself, with another evoking when he was held by the Unit-01. The other four represent a winged version of the rock he sits on in his first appearance, a shape evoking his silhouette, a ring engraved with the opening score of “Symphony No. 9,” and one engraved with one of his lines to Shinji.

Each 6-ring character set costs 24,200 yen, or around US$152. Now available to pre-order on the official EVA Store website, they’ll be heading towards fans sometime in September, with shipping available worldwide via the Buyee service.
