Williams may have quietly altered her ring’s design around 2024, as the one she frequently sports today has no side stones and a pavé band—unlike the sparkler she debuted in 2017.
Serena Williams’s engagement ring is a real winner.
The all-time tennis great landed on every most-expensive-ring list when she received her proposal piece from now-husband Alexis Ohanian in December 2016. The Reddit co-founder asked Williams to marry him at Rome’s Cavalieri Hotel—the same place where their paths first crossed by chance in May 2015.
“I knew it was coming,” Williams told Vanity Fair of the proposal in a 2017 cover story. “I was like, ‘Serena, you’re 35, you’re ready. This is what you want.’”
The couple wed on November 16, 2017, holding a Beauty and the Beast-themed ceremony at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans. Their daughter Olympia, who’d arrived in September 2017, was the most adorable guest of honor, as photos from the big day published by People show.

Ever since, Williams has casually displayed her massive diamond engagement ring at a Met Gala dinner, the TIME100 Gala, and at Wimbledon 2026 (per Marie Claire). Call it her good luck charm—not that the 23-time Grand Slam champion needs much luck, as she continues to serve style and sportsmanship whenever she graces the court.

Her ring has a 12-carat oval-cut diamond—and its design may have been updated in recent years.

Williams’s ring is clearly closer to a boulder than a rock, but just how big is it? According to The Knot, it clocks in at about 12 carats, putting it on the heavier end for celebrity diamonds. It’s a three-stone ring, too—the tennis champ’s 2018 Vogue cover shows the oval-cut center stone flanked by two accent stones, one on either side. She also offered a closer look at the ring’s unique design when she wore it to the 2019 Met Gala.
In 2024, Williams began wearing a slightly different-looking design on her left ring finger. Although she never announced an upgrade or replacement to her original engagement ring, the newer piece (which she sported at the 2025 Time100 Gala, the 2026 Met Gala, and Wimbledon 2026) features a pavé band and no side stones. The central rock, however, looks the same.

She did a ring reveal fakeout before dropping a first look on Reddit.

In a show of support for her tech founder husband’s career, Williams naturally took to Reddit—the social media platform Ohanian co-founded in 2005—to reveal her ring. Uploading to the r/Sneakers subreddit, the athlete titled her January 2017 post “Engagement shoe game,” but it was the show-stopping sparkler on her finger in the accompanying photo that stole the show.
Before the actual ring reveal, she’d trolled her followers on Instagram by pretending to post the ring. In that fakeout photo, her diamond was covered up by a taco emoji. In another Instagram post from a few days prior, she’d shared a snap of a plastic taco novelty ring, writing in the caption, “Sneak peek. ❤️It was a corn tortilla of course in case you were wondering.”
It’s worth an estimated $2 million.

A ring the size of Williams’s typically comes with a lot of zeroes on the price tag. Per The Knot, her 12-carat bauble is worth an estimated $2 million. The mom of two is joined in the million-dollar-ring club by Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, and fellow tennis star Aryna Sabalenka, who got a ring of the same size in March 2026.
She also has a (rarely seen) sparkly wedding ring.

A simple band just wouldn’t do when it came to picking out the next piece in Williams’s diamond-studded bridal stack. About a week after her 2017 nuptials, the newlywed dropped the first look at her glitzy wedding ring on her daughter Olympia’s Instagram account (which is run by Williams). The sweet photo shows Williams holding her daughter’s legs while Olympia inquisitively looks toward the camera.
Peoplereported at the time that Williams’s wedding ring appeared to be “an eternity band that had a teardrop concave to create a halo around the large center stone of the engagement ring” and was itself accented with “three more pear cut stones” at the tip of the teardrop. Williams hasn’t often worn her wedding ring, although it was visible alongside her engagement ring during the 2018 U.S. Open women’s final.
