“Automobile Tax Due by July 3″… Seoul Sends Out Tax Bills All at Once

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 15th that it has finalized a total automobile tax amount of 211.2 billion won for the first half of this year and has sent out 1.92 million tax bills.

Taxation applies to automobiles and construction machinery registered under the Automobile Management Act and the Construction Machinery Management Act, with the owner as of June 1, 2026 serving as the taxpayer.

The total amount of automobile tax has decreased by 2.3 billion won (about 1.1%) compared to the 213.5 billion won collected for the first half of last year. The city explained, “The main reason is the increase of 20,000 eco-friendly vehicles (electric and hydrogen fuel cell) subject to the fixed automobile tax of 100,000 won.”

The payment period runs from June 16 to July 3. Although the original deadline was the end of June, the payment period has been extended because the local tax system will be temporarily suspended due to the launch of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Integrated Special City and the administrative district reorganization in Incheon.

Payments can be made through easy payment apps such as Seoul ETAX and STAX, KakaoPay, Naver Pay, and Toss Pay. The city also provides a voice conversion QR code printed on the bill for the visually impaired, and includes a foreign language guide in six languages—including Chinese, English, and Mongolian—for foreigners who are not familiar with Korean.

Park Kyunghwan, Director of Finance at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, stated, “This round of automobile tax was designed to allow for convenient payment through a variety of methods,” and urged, “Please make sure to pay within the deadline to avoid additional charges or other disadvantages.”
