Nethercutt Museum showroom

Los Angeles has plenty of flashy, expensive experiences all over the city. But hidden up in Sylmar, the Nethercutt Museum quietly offers affordable access to glittering state-of-the-art showrooms with multi-million-dollar automobiles.

For a $5 museum ticket, a visit to the Nethercutt may be one of the more underrated budget outings that even many life-long Angelenos haven’t experienced.

Here’s a closer look…

200+ perfectly restored luxury cars

The museum feels less like a car warehouse and more like an opulent 20th-century palace, complete with marble columns, crystal chandeliers, and painted ceilings.

The Nethercutt Collection comprises more than 200 American and European vintage automobiles, including Duesenbergs, Bugattis, and Rolls‑Royces, all collected by entrepreneur J.B. Nethercutt in the second half of the 20th century. It’s widely considered one of the best automobile collections in North America.

Beyond the cars, visitors can peruse several other exhibition spaces with interesting vintage objects. In the mezzanine, the museum displays a collection of antique hood ornaments, as well as 18th and 19th-century French furniture. And the Music Room showcases a range of automated mechanical musical instruments, from reproducing pianos to music boxes.

Don’t forget to head out behind the museum to check out a beautifully restored steam locomotive and railcar.

Despite ending its old free admission policy, the Nethercutt Museum is still a genuinely affordable outing by L.A. standards at $5 a ticket.

If taking public transit from central L.A., you can take Metrolink’s Antelope Valley line to Sylmar/San Fernando Station, and then hop on Bus 224 to the San Fernando/Bledsoe stop to reach the Nethercutt Museum.
