Hot hatchbacks are the new black – and here’s our pick of the Top 10 battery-powered pocket rockets to savour in 2026.
In the coming weeks and months we’re going to enjoy an EV hot hatch bonanza.
The Vauxhall Corsa GSE will accelerate into view, Volkswagen will add the ID. Polo GTI to its performance hatchback mix, and the Peugeot E-208 GTI will come in swinging, too.

And then there are the models already here, from the Abarth 600e to the wolf in sheep’s clothing that is the Volvo EX30.
To whet the appetite for what’s to come, and what’s already available to lease right now with Select Car Leasing, here’s our run-down.
Peugeot E-208 GTi
- Power: 281 PS, 345 Nm torque
- 0-62mph: 5.5 seconds
- Price: £34,995

Peugeot and GTi go together like bank holidays and traffic jams and the latest model to wear the French firm’s famous badge will be the E-208 GTi.
It’s due to arrive later this summer and tips a backwards baseball cap to the old Peugeot 205 GTi 1.5 from the 1980s.

The E-208 GTi is fully electric, gets power of 281 PS and 345 Nm torque (nudging it ahead of some rivals), and the ability to sprint from 0-62mph in 5.5 seconds.
Oh, and Peugeot has chucked a mechanical limited slip differential into the mix for maximum hoonability.
Vauxhall Corsa GSE
- Power: 281 PS, 345 Nm torque
- 0-62mph: 5.5 seconds
- Price: TBC

The Vauxhall Corsa GSE and the Peugeot E-208 GTi are very much electric siblings, as you can see from the near-identical stats.
Like the Peugeot, the electric Vauxhall pays homage to urban racers from the past, including the iconic Nova GTE that ragged about the streets in the 1980s.

The Corsa GSE is underpinned by a 54 kWh battery that brings you a 0-62mph time of 5.5 seconds – 0.4 seconds quicker than the existing Mokka GSE.
A Torsen multi-plate limited-slip differential and a lowered sports chassis bring the track day fun. It’s due to launch later in 2026.
Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI
- Power: 226 PS, 290 Nm torque
- 0-62mph: 6.8 seconds.
- Price: Around £34,000, est

The electric VW ID. Polo GTI trades outright pace for a longer range between charges compared with its nearest rivals (see above!).
Here a 52 kWh battery brings you power of 226 PS and a range of up to 263 miles between charges.

It’s not massively quick off the line, but you still get a front differential lock, adaptive DCC sports suspension and progressive steering as standard.
That should be enough to put a big daft grin on your face.
CUPRA Raval VZ
- Power: 226 PS, 290 Nm torque
- 0-62mph: 6.8 seconds.
- Price: Around £34,995

The VZ is the hottest variant of the CUPRA Raval available, and you can order one right now with Select.
It shares a powertrain with the VW ID. Polo GTI and gets power of 225 PS and a quick-but-not-that-quick 0-62mph time of 6.8 seconds.

You do, though, get the full CUPRA experience with copper-coloured accents and full-on bucket seats. An electronic limited slip differential and Dynamic Chassis Control come as standard.
Abarth 600e Competizione
- Power: 280 hp, 345 Nm torque
- 0-62mph: 5.85 seconds.
- Price: Around £37,995

Yes, yes, we know this is more of a crossover than a ‘hatchback’, but the stonking Abarth 600e still deserves a place on this list.
A 51 kWh battery unlocks decent amounts of power and a range of around 200 miles between charges, while in-your-face styling and fake exhaust notes add a typically Italian flourish. You also get a Torsen limited-slip differential.

It’s the Competizione model that unlocks the full power and kit, though the Abarth 600e can also be leased in slightly less potent 240 hp form.
MG4 XPOWER
- Power: 435 PS, 600 Nm torque
- 0-62mph: 3.8 seconds.
- Price: Around £33,995

What looks like a mild-mannered school run machine but is actually quicker than the current Porsche 911 Carrera?
Yep, it’s the bonkers, all-wheel drive MG4 XPOWER.

A 64 kWh battery and dual motors do the damage, with the range-topping XPOWER model also getting a slew of performance upgrades like orange brake callipers and metal sports pedals.
It also makes use of an electronic locking differential and torque vectoring between the front and rear motors.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 N
- Power: 435 PS, 770 Nm torque
- 0-62mph: 3.4 seconds.
- Price: Around £65,800

While more of a hot SUV (see the Abarth 600e above), the Ioniq 5 N has picked up a few ‘Hot Hatch of the Year’ awards so gets a mention in this run-down.
It ain’t cheap, but it is blisteringly quick.
An 84 kWh battery is allied to twin motors for colossal power of 650 PS and a 0-62mph time of just 3.4 seconds. That makes it just as quick as the latest Aston Martin Vantage.

There’s lots of ‘N’ tomfoolery, from a Drift Optimizer to torque distribution by way of an electronic limited slip differential.
All of that, and you still get a range of up to 278 miles between charges.
Alpine A290
- Power: 220 hp, 300 Nm torque
- 0-62mph: 6.4 seconds.
- Price: Around £36,495

The rowdy brother to the Renault 5 E-Tech, the Alpine A290 is best enjoyed in GT Performance+ or GTS+ guise, which unlocks the most amount of power.
While the A290 isn’t the quickest hot EV going, brake-based torque vectoring and a sports chassis provide the agility.

The Alpine A290 was recently named Performance Car of the Year at the 2026 UK Car of the Year (UKCOTY) Awards.
MINI Cooper Electric John Cooper Works
- Power: 258 PS, 350 Nm torque
- 0-62mph: 5.9 seconds.
- Price: Around £34,905

The trim line-up for the electric MINI Cooper is slightly confusing in that you can get John Cooper Works exterior styling on the ‘Sport’ trim (including JCW badges) without actually opting for the most powerful powertrain.

But tick the fully-fledged JCW box and you’ll unlock power of 258 PS and the ability to launch from 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds, which is respectable indeed.
Brake-based torque vectoring and dedicated traction control keep things feisty while the aggressive styling is bang on the money.
Volvo EX30
- Power: 428 PS, 543 Nm torque
- 0-62mph: 3.6 seconds.
- Price: Around £42,360

Another model in this list that straddles the line between ‘hatchback’ and ‘crossover’, the Volvo EX30 is still well worth a look.
All models are quick, with even the base ‘P5’ powertrain propelling you down the road from 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds.

Choose the all-wheel drive, dual motor ‘P8’ version, though, and things get a heck of a lot spicier. The 0-62mph time drops to just 3.6 seconds yet you still get a max range of around 279 miles between charges.
